A Padding Press is used to bind loose pieces of paper together on one end with adhesive. You can see pads of paper created with padding presses all over the place; the yellow note pads popular in businesses, stationary, and more. Stacks of paper are placed in a large vice and are clamped into place. While in the padding machine, padding compound (glue) is applied by hand using a padding brush to the back edge of the paper stack. Once the bind is dry, the stack of paper is removed and can be cut down to size.

NCR and carbonless paper can also be bound using this padding press; to avoid marks on your carbonless paper, tighten the clamps slightly looser than you would with standard paper. Limitations:
- The J1811 Padding press was designed for low volume usage, so it is missing some nice features found on heavier duty models, such as the lazy Susan that allows for spinning of the press, which eliminates having to walk around the table to apply the glue.
- The J1811 has a padding capacity of sheet sizes up to 5-3/4″ H x 17-3/4″ W, and approximately 4,000 to 7,000 total sheets per stack. This capacity is not meant for high volume production usage.
