I admire them a lot. Those authors are genius and very creative in my opinion.
Very good question! Some of my favorites are like yours.
1. Jane Eyre. For several years I’ve had the idea in my head for a story in which a heroine’s mental endowments and moral principles make her a great character, rather than beauty or society charm. I always envisioned a slightly degenerate, but infinitely lovable, hero. I saw them fall in love and he ask her to be his mistress. She would of course refuse, and later he would come to love her more for her strong principles. And of course, they would live happily ever after.
All this I envisioned without the endless other details that make Jane Eyre one of the greatest books ever written.
2. Anne of Green Gables – enough said
3. The Story Girl and The Golden Road, both by L.M. Montgomery
4. The Blue Castle by LMM
5. Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott
Because it (and Rose In Bloom) make good old-fashioned principles very appealing.
