Quick Vehicle Inspection Tips When Buying a Used Car
If you are considering purchasing Used Cars in Portland, you know what a daunting task it can be. There are so many things to consider that it can be an overwhelming experience. Here, then, are a few general pointers on how to physically check out a used car before you make a decision.
Make sure that the car is on level ground before checking it out. This will make it easier to make sure that there is nothing visually wrong with the tires and body. Carefully check the paint job of the car, taking note of any dents or scratches. Make a careful visual inspection of the body panels noting any wavy spots in the panel. Check the trunk of the car to make sure it is still in good condition. Make sure the trunk floor is rust and moisture free. Check under the hood of the car for any indication of dents, damage or rust. Look for indications of unusual wear and tear.

Go inside the car and check the seats and upholstery of the car for any tears, rips, stains, or other type of damage. Check to make sure the air-conditioning of the car is working well. With the engine running and in neutral, check the transmission dipstick. The fluid should be bright red and not smell burnt. Do a visual inspection of the belts. Make sure they are not cracked and worn. Inspect the tires. Make sure that there isn’t any uneven wear which would indicate poor alignment. Never buy a frame damaged car. If possible do an inspection under the vehicle checking the exhaust system and undercarriage for rust or wear.
It is always a good idea to have an authorized mechanic inspect the vehicle. It generally will cost you under a hundred dollars and will ensure you don’t get stuck with a vehicle in need of costly repairs. Do not pay sticker price. When purchasing from a dealer, make sure you negotiate. They will generally be able to reduce the asking price by a thousand to two thousand dollars.
