cement or concrete? I am trying to make stepping stones, but don’t want to use expensive craft store kit.?
You’ve already gotten enough advice. What I’m offering is to clarify “cement” vs “concrete”. Cement is the primary ingredient in a concrete mix, which is a mixture of concrete, aggregate (usually sand &/or stone), and water. I’ve made a few stepping stones, using my own homemade forms, but just to use up leftover concrete mix from a large project. It’s not difficult (meaning, you can do it) but it is somewhat time consuming if you need a significant quantity. (Oops, I guess I’m giving advice) And, it gets to be real work, if you are hand mixing and the job involves quite a few bags of mix. If you’re looking to color the concrete, there are just a few colors available and they’re not real cheap. Visit Lowe’s, Home Depot or whatever and check out their prices to see if the amount saved is worth the work. An additional consideration, though: when you cast the stones in place, the leveling process is much easier than placing a precast stone. LOL
