Principles of design: Difference between unity and harmony?
On the website I’m looking at, it says:
Harmony is achieved in a body of work by using similar elements throughout the work, harmony gives an uncomplicated look to your work.
Unity is seen in a painting or drawing when all the parts equal a whole. Your work should not appear disjointed or confusing.
I just don’t understand the difference… Could anyone explain?

Think of it this way. A row of violin players are all play the same note at the same time. They are in harmony. Now say some guy comes in and joins them with that note, only with a tuba. They are still in harmony because they’re playing the same note but the unity is off because the tuba is such a different sound than the violin.
That’s the best way I know how to explain it. Hope I helped.
