The Love Of Portrait Drawing

One such enhancement was the addition of their three cats, who were not there at the real wedding. He turned the face of one of the cats into a mask from Japanese opera, which supposedly wards off evil spirits. Good luck comes to those in a certain position, and he draws the second cat in it. The couple in the drawing is wearing kimonos. He decorated his wife with the kikyo flower, which is her matriarchal symbol. In order to draw notice to the gingko tree, he drew it past the third cat, past the vertical blinds, outside the room. The gingko is a sign of longevity, and the artist thought of including it after seeing a tree at the University of Iowa. His wife takes care of all the brainstorming and testing of ideas. The drawing has high sentimental value for them, said the wife. The artist says he would like to expand into landscapes, but he will always add people, as they are his favorite pieces to draw. It doesn’t matter that his pieces have not been exhibited, because four have found their way into books and one on the cover. The book editor came across the artwork upon referral by a member of the staff. He received an email from the editor, who praised his artistic talent in combining portraiture with architecture, and weaving intelligence and humor throughout the work. As a kid, he drew mostly action heroes and rock stars, and he has traveled far since those days. Now he is able to capture a composition of how exactly he would like to see it. He describes the process as a way of taking a photograph, in which the artist has the freedom to move things around.
